Howdy, TowerTalkians - I need more friction between an M2 mast clamp and the mast. How could I do that? What materials would work? Tnx. Cheers,Steve K7LXCCell: 206-890-4188 ________________
I have a 3 section 80 foot tower, the control box will not work it blows the connection to the tower. The tower has not been used for a few years. Get Outlook for iOS<https://aka.ms/o0ukef> _________
Valve grinding compound might work. Available on Amazon if you can't find it locally. Jim WE4S Get BlueMail for Android _______________________________________________ ______________________________

Only a different mast clamp will help. The M2 clamp just does not have enough contact area for demanding applications. There might be a few K7NV mast clamps still available out there. Maybe a longer
I don't think adding a friction material will help. There are better mast clamp designs out there. K7NV(sk) came up with a brilliant idea of clamping a round mast using a round clamp (imagine that).
Well before K7NV became a SK, DX Engineering entered into an agreement with Kurt to build the K7NV clamp. Here is the three inch version: https://www.dxengineering.com/parts/dxe-rtmc-3 Here is the tw
I have one of the K7NV clamps, which is on my K7NV prop-pitch. I agree that Kurt's passing was a great loss to us, but as far as this clamp is concerned, it is possibly "too brilliant ... by half". T
I never had an issue with my M2 mast clamp on the Orion, although many have had issues. The clamp had 6 bolts in it holding the mast, and no through bolt. Not sure why I never had an issue. Used a ga
Personally, I think the idea of using multiple U-bolts is the best way to go. As Rick says, the K7NV design doesn't really offer much additional surface area if the mast isn't perfect. I welded a p
It was "luck" as to why you never had an issue or maybe you have a tiny antenna. -- Rick Karlquist N6RK _______________________________________________ _______________________________________________

Bolt the two clamp sections to a lathe faceplate and bore them to the mast diameter. Remove enough material to enlarge the contact area and insure the bore is true to the bases. Use grade 8 bolts and

What would a competent machine shop charge to do this? Most of us don't have a fully outfitted machine shop :-). 73, Steve W1SRD Bolt the two clamp sections to a lathe faceplate and bore them to the
I have 5 tower tops using the K7NV clamp. Large antennas, one Yagi stack (big 40 and 10 meter beams) has 35 square feet of wind load at 260 feet! The K7NV clamps here have not slipped yet. 73 Tim K3L
Steve, Get hold of Champion Radio, they used to sell a clamp for the Orion. I have one and my C31 / Delta 230/240 stack hasn't slipped since installing the new clamp. ;-) Rich - N5ZC ________________

He said M2 Mast clamp and the mast. Steve used to sell M2 2800 clamps. Could he be asking about a M2 antenna mast clamp and the mast? George / W7GES _______________________________________________ __
I do not have enough mechanical knowledge to understand why the clamping surface area would not matter. Are you saying three center punch sized points with the same clamping pressure would hold the m
What Steve K7LXC omitted from his question regarding the M2 mast clamp and mast friction situation is the mast size, but Grant KZ1W made a great recommendation below to increase the contact area for
