Putting a steppIR Big IR 80m - 6m. What length of radials should I put on and what lengths? Have room for several and wanted to see a few schools of thought of lengths and how many. Thanks 73- W1JCW

Hello from MN, Last season, for the first time in 41 years on the air, I installed a "short" inverted-L. The vertical portion was 25 feet, with the rest of the horizontal-ish wire (104 feet total) ru

As others noted, IMO Rudy Severns has covered this topic very well for both buried and elevated radials. antennasbyn6lf.com Grant KZ1W Putting a steppIR Big IR 80m - 6m. What length of radials should

John, I would recommend making a ground screen with two 50 lengths of rabbit wire from Home Depot. Take the wire to the halfway point at the base of the vertical and lay them side by side parallel to

What length of radials should I put on and what lengths? Will the antenna be ground-mounted or elevated?  The advice about four resonant radials per band is specific to elevated radials. For on-groun

The wire mesh was used by Rob, NC0B for a vertical and he wrote an article about it. I wish I could find it I would have posted it.  He had very good results.  If I remember correctly he used 4  50 f

John, There are three options. 1.- Ground radials. Minimum about 30. Any lenght (random lenghts).. 2.- Elevated radial. Minimum 2 per band, best 4 per band. Exactly 1/4 Lambda (same size as a dipole)

I am not aware of the many schools of thought of radial design that W1JCW referred to. For a multiband SteppIR I think ground radials would be better than elevated since they do not need to be resona
