And complete overkill. How many tools did he use in that video? Soldering iron, razor blade, air compressor, Dremel tool, file, pliers, dikes. I especially like how he cuts through the tinned braid a

I use them outside as well as inside and have never had a problem. Before I started using them, I did a pull test to see how much force it would take to pull the coax out of the connector. I clamped
Near salt air? Here along the eastern coast, salt air affects crimped connectivity over time unless Coax Seal or a variant is used. The problem is never the center conductor, but with the braided po
I live on the coast, just a few hundred feet from the Pacific. Most wind is from the ocean onshore. The cable and sat installers here use crimped connectors, fast which counts for the installers. HOW
Jerry, I actually liked his technique, except for the Dremel tool cutting the braid. I agree Jerry, I think the average ham would have problems doing it that way :-) I do the braid trimming different

I'm miles from water, but the air or rain eats solder like candy around here. Even with 3 coats of clear Krylon, the solder connections on my C3i antennas dissolve every few years. OTOH Why would any

Roger, have you tried putting some Liquid Tape over the solder joints? Works like a champ here. 73, Gerald K5GW In a message dated 5/13/2016 8:35:08 P.M. Central Daylight Time, K8RI-on-TowerTalk@tm.n
Roger, I agree 100%. PL-259's are not designed to be a weather proof, water tight connector. We definitely should weather proof them. Even N connectors, with their sealed design, I weather proof them

Yes and it does! Liquid electrical tape is about the only thing that works and stays. I will be using it where the matching coax ts soldered in on the C3i antennas. I was really surprised to find the

I much prefer the sealer to be stuck to the connector. As for the glue from the heat shrink tubing. Make a linear cut in the tube and then let the connector get cold. The hot melt glue will then, gen

I'm trying to understand why a soldered connector, assuming both types are weatherproofed properly, is superior for corrosion protection. Seems to me Sn/Pb solder will corrode just as fast or faster

Good ideas Jim. I've used drip loops for so long, I forgot that there are a lot of new hams that might not be familiar with them. Drip loops are one of the simplest and effective steps to weatherproo

I have a 7L six. 11L 440, and 12L 144. All C3i antennas. Too bad they are no longer available. I worked the world on six the previous cycle peak The 144 and 440 C3i antennas were plenty broad banded,
Kevin, Good points ! Your system looks great. I was doing very similar for years. I have added a final step for sealing the connection I would like to share. Here in Napa Valley there are many wineri
Even just using Skotchkote over Scotch 88 will usually completely waterproof a connection but as was pointed out it is a pain to later take off..Usually requiring a utility knife to slit the connecti
