My feeling is that if the wire is rusted enough that you are worried about painting it then it should probably be replaced. I would say that any kind of coating that covers rust would likely prevent

It seems to me unless you can get there easily, maybe I wouldn't want to try. We had a 1200' tower guys repainted using pressure impregnating paint equipment. Not for the faint hearted. Used zinc bas
