You got a capacitor from ACE Hardware? What a country! It should be non-polarized, though, if it's really an AC capacitor... -WB2WIK/6 May I use a 108-130UF 250VAC polarized electrolytic starting cap

I am glad this thread started. I have a Motor Start Capacitor ready to be installed at the base of my tower which is marked 130-156 MFD 330VAC . How can I tell if it is polarized or not? There are no

If the capacitor is rated for AC, (330VAC) then it shouldn't have a polarity marked, should it? Maybe we get confused because AC rated capacitors CAN be used on DC (with a voltage rating about 3x the

It will work. Motor Start Caps are designed for AC, hence unpolarized. What they won't work for is a continuous duty application (like power factor correction or in a splitphase motor), because they'

Nope.. if you use it on DC, though, you'll find it's a pretty lossy cap (at least motor start caps are). In that application (which is very price sensitive) they don't go to huge efforts to produce a

I've even used straight electrolytics in rotator boxes. Because you aren't running it for very long, it doesn't get hot enough to be a problem. My T2X has had a 50 + 50uF 250 volt dual electrolytic w

I just go down to the local hardware store and get motor starting caps of the proper value. The AC voltage rating on them is usually so high that is a non issue. 73 Roger (K8RI) _____________________
