I took down my 40' Aluminum tower and Cubex 5-band quad (separate feeds for each band) over a year ago before moving away for a year. The quad was a wonderful antenna, especially good for listening.

Hi Tom, When I had a quad and monobanders, the quad was always quieter from snow static than the monobanders. Was wondering if the SteppIR would be quieter than a regualr aluminum beam during a snow

I can't speak for snow static, living in south Florida, but the steppir is less prone to precip static because (I think) of the fact that the elements are enclosed in a "radome"... When some of my lo

There are times during storms that my upper antennas have heavy static and the lower ones are much quieter. Perhaps your antenna is low and less prone to static than your buddies? John KK9A I can't s

I've had a 4-El SteppIR at 100ft for about a year now and have wondered about this possible "radome" effect. I seem to remember hearing precip static on my wire antennas while not hearing anything on

I have a Lightning Bolt quad and a 4 element SteppIR. My experience is the same, the SteppIR is way more directive than the quad. Before the quad, I had a KT34. It was also more directive than the qu

Rick, I'm not sure what you mean by directive, but there's no doubt that quads have poorer F/B than Yagis. Quads seem to have a very narrow frequency range over which the F/B peaks, but across the re

One big advantage of the quad that is often neglected is turning radius. Quads are great if you are in a tightly confined where you can't afford to have long yagi elements hanging over property lines
