Fred, I had a similar problem with the motor on one of my LM-470s. On one occasion I was having some sort of problem with the motor and removed it from its mount. Water immediately poured out of it.

I don't have that brand tower but the solution is rather generic. A cover for the motor can never hurt, but when you search for a replacement motor, look for something that is rated for "wash-down se

I have heard of others taking their motors to a local electric motor shop to be rebuilt. Costs normally are pretty low compared to a new replacement...and these motors are pretty common. Rich N7TR --

Agreed...it's been a few years since I replaced my tower motor (Tri-Ex LM470), it was a 1/2 HP Leeson, I think, and after a lot of searching around I think a new unit was around $300 +/-. Not cheap,

I had a sheet metal cover made for my motor on my LM-470. Keeps most of the direct rain off. Unfortunately, the motor on the TX-472 MDP is mounted on the bottom of the bottom and not easily covered.

The type motor needed is called a wash-down motor. Leeson is one such manufacturer. That is what my used LM-470 had on it. No problems with rain water incursion. 73, Jim W5QM ________________________
