This is probably nothing new for the old-timers, but if you're using a Weller-type soldering gun on PL-259s and the heat output seems marginal, take pliers and tighten up the nuts that attach the tip

Hi Pete - it's a good point - we did it for years, but learned one further point - don't just tighten those nuts each time - loosen them first, then tighten, not so firmly that you wreck 'em. Repeat
