How "stiff" is the AB-577 relative to say a Rohn push-up mast? I need something that I can house bracket to the eave of the house at the 20ft level, that would be stiff enough to support the center o

In my opinion, the AB-577 is not stiff enough without guys, even if the first 20 feet are bracketed. Each section is about five feet in length, and they are connected with circular metal spring clips

I echo that opinion.. we put up 3 - 5 ab-577's each year for field day and for various other contests and I can tell you that without guys....its only slightly better than a wet noodle. WJ1Z ~ BOB W1

For what it is worth I offer the following: The first time I put up my AB-577 I only put up 7 of the 8 sections - I was putting up an A3S tribander by myself in a fair amount of wind and I chickened

Thanks to all who replied to my inquiry on AB-577. The unamimuous consensus was that AB-577 would not be a good choice for a 30' unguyed span (house bracket at 20' and 50' overall height), due to the

For a "expedient mast", why not some lengths of iron pipe? Sure, it's heavy, but you don't have any particular need for portability and collapsibility, do you? 50 feet of 2" or 3" (or stepped sizes)
