Sounds like you have a bad connection somewhere in the antenna or coax to the antenna. Probably some oxidation. Your amp is putting out enough voltage to clear the oxidation and "weld" a connection,

Steve, When the antenna acts up maybe you can rotate it and see if there seems to be a connection to physical movement of the antenna. That would point to a bad connection somewhere. Further tapping

Steve, I presume you are using the internal SWR meter in the FT1000. Put an external SWR meter between the rig and amp and see if both read the same high VSWR. The problem may be internal to the FT10
