I think I had that problem once and it was the fuse. Boy, it was a long time ago but I vaguely remember there is a fuse inside that protects the meter and if it's blown the meter ALWAYS shows 180. in

I think he's referring to the CALIBRATE switch/pot on the control box. His must have been "pressed in" or ON - makes it read 180 (full scale) NO MATTER WHAT! There's no light or anything to indicate
