I would appreciate tips on what to look for in my evaluation. The other issue is that the antenna will swing back and forth in the wind and make banging sounds on the tubes. This may or may not be OK

I've had a MA770 for 10 years and no problems. I keep it at about 55ft for a feeling of additional safety. I have no bang or other noises from it. Be sure the limit switches always work. Bearings are
