Hello TowerTalkers, The Cushcraft R7 and R8 verticals seem to work pretty well. They use 8 "whiskers" that are about 3 feet long as the ground plane. Why does this work so well? Would it work better
Hi Mike, I guess you have to ask what's you're definition of "work well?" Does the R7 and R8 radiate a signal, apparently it does....but the real question to ask is: how much signal does it radiate a
The "whiskers" aren't really a ground plane - they create capacitance at the base of the antenna. If you extended them, then more capacitance would be present, most likely seriously upsetting the tun
FYI R7,R8 and other similar verticals from Hygain and MFJ are actually half wave vertical radiators. Those 47 inches "radials" are not radials at all, they are just another 1/8 of center fed vertical
YES, as I said PA4AO did the testing with his GP for 20M and R6000. It's on the air and S-meter measurement. It is very clear to understand why R6000 outperformed 1/4 vertical with 3 elevated radials
Hi Danny: Your comments regarding the CC verticals are appreciated by the group -- Just curious, are you still an employee of CC? It seems we met at Dayton about two years ago and briefly discussed m

<< Danny: How do you think the R6000 or R8 would perform over a steel roof. The base of the antenna would be about 2 to 3 feet above the roof. It's too low and antenna would not match. Probably will
I use a R7 about 4' off a 100 X 100 steel roof and operate a fair amount of QRP DX with good results. At 100 watts I work most of what i hear....... with patience Rick NK9G --Original Message-- From:
