All true, but I'd bet that the folks who think an end fed wire makes a good all band antenna don't much care about pattern.  If they can feed it and make random contacts without burning up their rig

I wouldn't say quite random; they just have lots of lobes. A model will give you a pretty good idea of the pattern. The big unknown will always be the ground system loss, but that doesn't affect the
