Magnus, I had the same problem here on my VHF antenna rotated by the GX-450 and found loose contacts at the crimp portion where the cable is terminated in at the control box plug was what caused it.

Before you do a work on the controller I would check the connections, especially on the tower. The Yaesu rubber boot does not offer much protection from the elements. John KK9A Hi My rotor controller

Hi Herb No, it is not any loose connections. I tried a jumper cable and shorted the mid and upper position on the backside of the button turning the rotor clockwise and the rotor turns and indicator
