The first thing I would do is check your connections, especially the one on the rotator. Some, if not all, Yaesu rotators have a rubber boot on the connector that does not effectively keep water out.

I have the G1000.  It is on my workbench for repair. The manual I have is for 800, 1000 and 2800.  Wiring diagrams for 800 and 1000 are identical.  Pins 4 and 5 are motor windings.  My Fluke Multimet
