Bruce, My experience with Universal Aluminum towers has been that they disassemble quite easily when they are horizontal! If it were my tower, I'd hire the crane to lower the tower and then disassemb

When I disassembled my dad's Heights Aluminum 40 ft tower, I lowered first and used a car jack to separate the sections. Two of the joints were so tight that I pulled the legs apart below the joint.

Banana if you are going to try to heat the larger diameter I recommend you do this while the joint is under pressure to separate...aluminum is excellent at conduction of heat fast....or cool....that'

Be careful heating alloys, lest you weaken them. Universal uses 6063-T832 for the legs. I don't know the max to which it may be heated without altering it, but I'm sure this information is available,
