Doug I'm pretty sure that's the maximum dead weight the cable is spec'd for. Sure there is a safety factor, but you shouldn't encroach on it much. More important is how much wind load 200 pounds of a

2. What point is the weak link for the 200 pounds? Here is the surprising thing I ran into with my HDX-5106, a MUCH bigger tower. It has a MonstIR on top, figure 250 lbs. Also a short mast and a pro

Rick, I think you hit the nail squarely on the head. As the overlap goes to its minimum the leverage of the extended tower portion vs the overlapped region's leverage begins to bind the overlapped po

What about having the boom on the same side of the mast as the raising cable is connected to the tower? That might help balance it a little? Another thing to do is keep a rope tied to the top of the

Thanks Matt, Yeah, I saw the safety factors for the *cables* on page 7.  But I wonder if the cables are really the "weak" point or if the *pulley frame assembly* is actually weaker.  Any way to know?

I'm a licensed P.E. (Calif.) and I have helped several local hams with tower designs and permits. I'm very familiar with the current TIA-222-G standard. It is the tower leg in the bottom section. The
