I've heard/read that when laying radials on the ground there's really not much benefit to making the radial length any longer then the height of your antenna.  So... if I'm using a ground mounted hus

Gary, you really need to read an article written by Al Christman, K3LC. Just look him up on Google under his article name: Maximum Gain Radial Ground Systems for Vertical Antennas. It was originally

What is missing for me on this article is at what take-off angle is the increased efficiency realized? I suspect the smaller radial systems raise the angle of radiation slightly or maybe not so sligh

Dave, It seems to me that the takeoff angle is going to be primarily determined by the characteristics of the ground outside the radial field. For example, to get low takeoff angles, requires reflect

Correct on all counts. Radials change EFFICIENCY. They have no effect on the shape of the vertical pattern. 73, Jim K9YC _______________________________________________ ______________________________

The antenna is surrounded by a salt-marsh...I watched the impedance of the 1/4 vertical drop each time I added four 1/4wave radials till I got to 48 of them...then no more change. I left it at that a

Wow.... it talks about 8,000 to 16,000 feet of wire as the radial bed. That is a lot of wire. More than 40,- 25-foot radials the usual ham puts down. == Richards - K8JHR == __________________________

My 40m, 3-el vertical array has 60 34' radials under each vertical. My 80m 3-el vertical array [to be erected SOON] will have 60 75' radials under each vertical. You do the math. Don N8DE ___________
