No, you don't want to use pipe. Pipe bends too easily. What you want is tube. See the "tubing vs. pipe" thread; although the question concerned aluminum, similar principles apply to steel. 73 Alan NV

I use 21' of 1020DOM 1/4" wall steel tube for 2 towers. However on another I have a 15' length of galvanized fence pipe. I believe it is called Schedule 40+ and it has supported a 3 el 20M monobander

4el monobanders on 20' of 2 3/8 OD galvanized cast pipe. Except for eating rotators (Daiwa and Create even using 2 thrust bearings) it survived just fine thru many northeasters, CAT 2 & 3 hurricanes

Many years ago I stacked two 6elem 6M beams on that fence rail material. A small storm bent the mast just above the 1st antenna and we had a hell of a time getting it down. I would not recommend fenc

Calculated risk is what I called it! If only a single antenna of any significant wind load is going to be mounted just above the tower top plate then cast iron pipe is more than sufficient as there i

Also...if you are only planning on a single moderately-sized (i.e. not a 40m full sized) antenna immediately above a thrust bearing, I don't see anything wrong with using heavy-wall conduit for a ma

There are several grades of fence posts; the cheap stuff is Schedule 15 and other choices go up to 83,000 psi yield strength. The 2" (1.9" OD) 40+ that I use has a yield of 50,000 psi and a bending m

The 1.9" OD is "1.5 inch iron pipe size" and the 2 3/8" OD is "2 inch iron pipe size". Rick N6RK _______________________________________________ _______________________________________________ TowerT

Which is not the same as fence industry size. They call it 2" & 2 1/2" for the Sch40. Trying to compare sizes across industries that do not have a common standard only results in headaches. Carl KM1
