I connect the Phyllistran to the EHS using a 502 insulator. I had the 502's since I replaced the EHS recently. Thought this would make an easy way to couple the two. I use guy grips to the Phyllistra

This is really bad practice. The guy grips are pretty brittle and cannot handle being hooked back to back without thimbles. USE THIMBLES or some other large diameter object like insulators or pay up

Hello Sylvan just connect them thimble to thimble it will work just fine. You will have to pry open the thimble on the EHS a little to get it in the thimble for the phyllistran. 73 Rick KC5AJX --Orig

Although I have seen big grips looped without anything, and no apparent ill effects, on the PLP web page they show a minimum radius they want. Even some thimbles would not do if you take their page s

Correct. In addition to preventing the 'fold', a thimble or insulator, by holding the wire in a well defined path, prevents wear. I seem to recall W3LPL reporting a guywire failure at the earth ancho

In PLP's (maker of Big Grips) instruction sheet they go one step further - they state that thimbles (when used alone as in thimble-to-thimble joints) have been known to collapse (under "high tension"
