What about use of RG8/U FOAM coax in outdoor environment. Again sealing all connections well - there is no air dielectric here? lots of UV sun here=20 josh n7xm -- StripMime Report -- processed MIME
RG8 is fine. It's the good ol standby. However, there are many newer cables that have far better performance. Of course, RG8 is very cheap. It's 20 cents a foot cheaper than some of the other stuff.
The problem with RG8 "foam" cables is the same problem that all "soft" cables have, that being it's mechanically fragile. If handled with care, it should last a long time. But it should not be clampe
I've not seen this problem ever. I've tie wrapped or taped all my cables over the years and have never seen an issue. It's hard for me to believe a little tie wrap could hurt a dielectric. Even if yo
Hi Jon, I disagree with you entirely. The "failure" has nothing to do with frequency, or an impedance bump. The failure is dielectric breakdown that occurs with high power operation and a pinched die
I understand that. I've never seen it happen with any of the setups that I have done. Maybe I'm just careful about my cable runs. 73, Jon NA9D -- Jon Ogden NA9D (ex: KE9NA) Life Member: ARRL, NRA Mem
No sweat, Jon. You have been careful, or maybe lucky, or maybe a bit of both! If you read "Belden Innovations," for many years running they warned about using nylon tie-wraps with coaxial cable, and
