I don't use the band map feature all that often but do like to have it turned on in CQWW to avoid dupes when I S&P down a band. Anyway, I was testing things out and discovered that I can populate the
/archives//html/TRLog/2007-11/msg00043.html (7,647 bytes)

Yes, that's exactly how it behaves for me in 6.88. I don't recall which version started this behavior but 6.82 which I used in Sweepstakes last year was fine. Is sure decreases the utility of the ban
