The Drake TR-7 was way ahead of its time and still is a fine rig for about any Ham application! I have owned or via a Club had access to three of them over the years. They may be found for $450. and

IMHO ... Your Drake TR-7 was not working properly. A properly working TR-7 will still get the best of some far more modern rigs on rx and on tx, for best performance on CW one may choose to make som
