I've built one and like you had to add C to make it resonate. With it located inside I did get lots of noise from the power line wiring in the building. Added some CORCOM filters to the noise sources

Hi Frank, Most people incorrectly assume the shield "filters" electric fields, and allows magnetic fields to pass to what they assume is the "antenna" inside the shield. That concept is totally wrong
