I have compared the Icom IC-756pro2 with my FT-1000MP and Elecraft K2 in an A/B test on digging real on-air weak CW signals out of the noise on 10 meters and 160 meters. The 756pro2 performed best on

When there are nearby strong signals on the band they can be part of the noise. If you were making your comparison with some strong nearby signals in the mix, you would likely rank those radios very

Assuming all of the receivers are limited by external noise and don't have some major flaw, a weak steady carrier in broadband somewhat smooth noise would have a S/N ratio established by selectivity.

Like many topbanders, I'm also very interested in the differences between receivers in their ability to pull weak cw signals out of the noise. Although I appreciate Earl's efforts in this regard, a q

Earl is certainly an experienced operator and a great asset to 160. I'm not implying Earl's tests are meaningless, but they cover just one operating condition for one type of listener. Quite frankly,

One major issue on low bands during thunderstorm season is AGC and the ability of a receiver to reproduce weak signals without adding unnecessary artifacts to the already destructive noise from stati
