Fellow Topbanders, I just finished replacing my damaged base loaded vertical and have a question about the optimum amount of top loading. A bit of background - my new vertical is a 55' #12 wire suppo

Bob, You should lengthen the two top loading wires so that the basic resonance of the vertical is about 1.9mhz. Then add a Hairpin coil across the feed point and adjust it/ top loading to place the m

Bob, I should have added that you would increase the performance of the antenna if you could find a way to raise the ends of the top loading by the same amount on each side, this will raise the feed

If you model it, there will be a length that maximizes the radiation resistance, and that will be in the neighborhood of 1/3 of the height. They are already too long. Plan on using a base inductor to

Robert, I would leave it as it is. I have experimented a lot with sloping top-loading wires and found that 12 - 14 meters (~40') is about right with a 55' vertical section. The only thing I would do

Bob, N6RK and AA7JV/C6AGU are both on the right track. I lean with adding more radials and feeding with a 12.5Ohm Un-UN. In that respect you can add relay taps on the loading coil and go entire band
