On of the topics often discussed here in the past is the importance of having good common mode rejection on unbalanced coax feeds for Beverages, EWES, and Pennants etc. Most of my Beverage feeds are

I don't know anything about those "video baluns" you're talking about, but I can shed some light on the common mode choke side of the equation, and also on CAT5. Each pair in CAT5 is nominally 100 oh

I did some design work on video baluns a few years ago. They consist of a large number of turns of twisted pair on an ungapped pot core. Old fashioned analog video is best sent with DC coupling. If t

Cat5 impedance (for each individual pair) is supposed to be 100 ohms. Note that there is cat5 out there of questionable quality just like for coax, but you're usually OK if you stick with the major b

A couple of things: What is the conductor size in CAT5 and what is the center to center spacing. With that its easy to calculate Z. Since those TV baluns share a common ground they are likely not tra

Rick Karlquist has correctly described the so-called "baluns" we're talking about here, which are intended to carry baseband analog video, and to break the path for AC-power-related leakage currents
