My best effort ever in CQP. What a difference a beam makes! I've
operated this contest at home with a G5RV@40' and never had much
luck...This time it was different, where before I would have to fight my
way through the piles to get Qs, this time I was CREATING the piles! I'm
never doing CQP without a beam ever again!

I operated from the Penn State University Club Station(K3CR). One
good thing about the contest is that I didn't have to watch the Ohio State
vs. PSU romp...there went the National Championship!

Can I count the Qs with San Benito and Lassen that I worked in CQP
'95 for this year? Out of all the counties in CA I thought those two would
be relatively easy. WHAT HAPPENED???

10 meters never opened here...I made a few skeds for this band but
never heard a squeak out of the CA stations...

15 meters opened both days, it seemed like a lot of the CA stations
didn't know about it though...I was expecting more Qs here.

20 meters was just plain AWESOME. Great conditions on the band all
weekend.

40 meters was good. It seemed like the conditions were ok but I
expected to hear/work more CA stations there, especially on Phone...the
Broadcast stuff wasn't real overbearing here...

80 meters was MUCH better than I expected...I thought I would be
lucky to come away with 10 Qs on that band total but 59Qs blew me away.
Thanks to all of the CA stations that pulled me out of the noise...

I didn't even try 160. The 80 meter dipole REFUSED to load up and
there is no way to use a shorting stub with the antenna because of the way
CR is configured...I hope to do something about that soon.

I hope to work you all this coming weekend in the PA QSO Party!
Please look for me from home as KB3AFT in Washington County.

73 & CU in the 'tests
