Comments:
Strong winds were forecast for the weekend, so played it safe
and didn't crank tower all the way up -- don't think it made
any difference in results. Because of wind couldn't put up
balloon-supported 160m vertical.
With forecast of lousy conditions for start and feeling that
conditions were going to be worse than last year, decided I
shouldn't be too serious about this one. First evening met these
expectations: JA-run lasted about 30 minutes on 15m. Slept both
nights.
However, Sunday's conditions were much better than Saturday's
(as predicted). As compared with last year, band-zones were the
same, 8 fewer band-countries, but 100K fewer points. Working
160+ JAs/Asians on 15m in the last 2:15 of contest made a big
difference this year.
I was reminded once again in this contest of a couple of simple
rules to keep in mind, particularly for low power contesting.
1. All multipliers are equal. A V5 is no more important than a
VP5. While S&Ping, don't spend a lot of time in a pileup --
there are other multipliers waiting to be found. You can always
come back to the pileup.
2. Propagation changes with time. Just because a station can't hear
you initially, doesn't mean they will never hear you. Come back
later.
