                     ARRL 160-Meter Contest

Call: N7GP
Operator(s): N5IA
Station: N7GP

Class: SO High Power
Operating Time (hrs): 24

Section: AZ

Totals:
   706 QSOs x ( 74 Sections + 6 Countries) = 119,200

Comments:

Friday night started very good with a first hour total of 75 Qs. Next hour was
55, and then the Texas-Oklahoma panhandle light show started. That area is
about 500 miles ENE from SE AZ and right in line to all the eastern US.

Soooo, the next 12 hours were the worst I've experienced. S-9+ crashes with
S-8,9 constant aftershocks till daylight. And this was on the Beverages. My
apologies to all those stations who called and I was unable to complete or even
start a QSO with. Finsihed the 1st night with 380 Qs.

What a contrast the 2nd night. There were a few crashes shortly after sundown
and then it was deathly quiet the rest of the night. At times I wondered if I
had an antenna connected. No EU either night, but short openings to JA both
mornings for a total of 17.

Missed KL7 (normally no problem), NWT, NL, Maritime, & VI. Worked VK6HD and
N2NL/KH2 for the best DX.

There was a tremendous lack of stations the 2nd night. Perhaps the casual
operators gave up after the catastrophy of the 1st night. Sure do need a lot
more participation.

Happy Holidays to everyone. Thanks to all for the Qs. BTW, no Qs closer than
150 miles from my location. 73, and CU all in the SPDC IV.
