Comments:

Station: FT-920, ALS-600 Amp, 2 Alpha-Delta Dipoles: up 30' and 50'

I had a far more difficult time than expected due to the location and limited
antennas. It was very frustrating to have little luck getting runs going on
10 meters despite the great conditions to Europe on Sunday. I spent a lot
of time cycling through the bands digging for Q's.

The station location was at a friend's house in Quincy, Ca. I hadn't seen
the site before, and found limited locations to string the dipoles. Although
Quincy is in a valley (at a 3500' elevation), the biggest problem was a hill
immediately to the east. I also had problems with the amp because of SWR
problems (I didn't bring an external tuner), so couldn't use it on 15 meters
and 10 and 20 SSB. In similar circumstances in the future I'd just leave it
off and go lower power, as the FT-920 did fine with its built-in tuner.

Despite the problems though it was a fun contest. It was great to work so
many friends in California, and it was cool to get called by VY1JA a few times.
It was also nice to give a new mult to quite a few guys late in the contest.

Observations:
The 10M opening to Europe on Sunday was quite amazing -- I was hearing mostly
loud EU stations and little stateside.
There seemed to be fewer CW stations on, especially on 80 meters where I
expected to make more Q's.
Where was RI? -- and for me, MT, AK, ND and MB! (:

Thanks to everyone for making it such a fun time, and congrats to NCCC for
sponsoring the best state QSO party. Special thanks to my host who let me
string wires in the trees in her yard, put up with my CQing late at night and
early in the morning, and even got food from Taco Bell for lunch on Sunday! :)
