Q's and hours spent in the contest most for me in an HF event in over a decade.
Maybe next cycle, with the kids grown up etc. I'll get to sepnd full time at it
as I do in VHF events! Of course, by then, everybody will be on the internet
and I'll be talking to myself......
Rates were the highest I've ever experinced in any contest. When I turned the
beam west Saturday mid-day, I worked 310 q's in the next 90 minutes. I'd never
averaged over 200 q's for more than 30 minutes before. Wow! Unfortunately, that
was when the family was heading out for the afternoon, so that was the end of
that. Rates were high every time I got on: rate meter was over 170 at 2130z
Sunday when I got on for my last half hour stint. Wish I had more than one
antenna and could point them in different directions. From the NE you need to
have one beam for domestic q's and one on EU starting late morning to maximize
things. Something to shoot for in 2011!
I operated for 5 hours Saturday, 4.5 hours on Sunday and a little over an hour
on Friday. I made about 50 q's on cw (not included above) Friday night and at
the start on Saturday before deciding to do SSB only. Always good to have a
plan and stick to it....
Thanks for all the q's 73, Jeff K1TEO
