Comments:
Briefly, as my wife's brother and sister and their spouses are here with us. I
disappeared into the shack, and was "gone" for two days! Now, back to
socializing again.
Conditions improved from sub-normal to pretty good over the two days. I had
about the same number of QSOs the second day as the first. That was the case
last year as well.
20 was a workhorse band, which is bad for W5s, as we are two to three S units
beneath the east and north central USA. I slogged thru as best as I could. 20
had a good over-night opening to Asia/Euro Saturday night. It was better than
Friday night here.
It was almost impossible to run Euro on 40, even with a very good 40 meter
antenna here! The main problem was the extremely noisy bands to Eu from the bad
storms in the USA midwest. I could not hear the stations coming back to me on
beverages or any antennas. That killed my score with few Eu 6 pointers. I could
hear KW9N and the east coast guys running Euro well. For the most part, I was
stuck with working the louder guys there who were CQing.
15 meters never opened to Eu, but I could run with modest rates. The stations
never were strong. Most were pee weak right at the noise level. Fortunately,
15 opened to JA the last three hours, and there was a pretty decent JA run. I
called CQ for about three hours on one frequency there and had many Pacific
stations call in for some mult improvements at the end. My terrible line noise
problem was fixed when the utility company re-ran a whole feeder line for new
developments. For the first time in twenty years, I have no line noise now!
What a blessing.
I worked hard, but there are too many one pointers in the log due to the
difficulty of working Eu on 20 meters from here.
Congrats to N9RV and others for tremendous scores and efforts!
I worked the SO2R very hard. The mental strain is huge!
