Comments:

We set up an HF9V and MA160V at the edge of the lagoon here at the Hotel
Otintaai on Tarawa Atoll. We took 3 hour shifts for the full 48 hours, but
reverted back to DXpedition mode during the dead times to the US -- 0300-0500
and 1600-1900 UTC.

This is our 5th ARRL DX contest from the Pacific. Invariably 20 meters, while
great to Europe, is pretty poor to North America from here. 40 and 15 were the
prime bands. Unfortunately we only caught a very brief 10 meter opening to CA
and AZ Sunday 0030-0100. 160 is a struggle with 100 watts, so we are always
surprised when someone responds to a CQ!

Being this far out in the Pacific with a rare call, we were challenged to quiet
the DX while tuning for W/VE. We found an ad hoc solution to log some DX
without changing Writelog logs, by logging them as NU so Writelog would accept
the QSO and we could move on. In the QSO summary above we have eliminated the
NUnavikers. No, we didn't work any real NU.

We were happy with our score. With these QSOs we have passed the 22,000 Q mark
with about 12 more operating hours until we pack up for home. We are always
amazed what a couple of vertical with lots of radials and 100 watts can do next
to (or at high tide in) salt water.

We hope we gave a few new T30 band countries to the deserving during this
melee. Thanks to the ARRL, and you guys and gals staying home, for making it
happen out here near the confluence of the equator and international date
line.

We will upload the logs to LOTW after we get back next week.
