Another M/M in the books. This was our first contest using Win-Test software.
I highly recommend it. Thanks to Tim, K3LR and Bob, N6TV for encouraging me to
make the switch from CT that had served me well for decades. Not a single crash
all weekend. Even the telnet stayed up for 48 hours!

The contest didn't really produce volume for us in CO. Our score was down
significantly. We were down about 1500 QSOs due to no depth in our pileups. I
think we just didn't have access to the lower strength signals this time.

During the week before the contest, my good friend and operating partner,
George, W0UA kept me up with what was going on on the bands operating from his
home QTH. Boy, that guy sure makes his city-lot station play on all bands!

We made progress in reducing interaction this year. My pal, Kurt, K7NV came out
again for the week preceding the test and we concentrated on reducing the
interaction. One big breakthrough was grounding the booms of the ten meter
beams across the the Tic Ring rotors. Still a few problems, but now I think we
can begin to really make progress. I really love the contest, but must say that
having Kurt to buddy up with for a week a couple times a year is right up there
with operating the contest.

We had a great team.

Many of the guys did double and triple duty due to lack of operators. Although
AA0RS was a big part of the preparation, he was unable to come for the contest
due to personal reasons and W1XE could only make it on Sunday. As a
consequence, W0UA not only did 20M, but also ran 80M the first night while his
20M partner, W0ZP hung with 20M for almost all of the 48 hour. Kurt, K7NV and
Alan, K0AV did 40M, but Alan had to come to 80M on the second night while I ran
160M. W2UP came up Sat and Sun for the bulk of the 15M activity. I assured
Barry that next time I will make special arrangements with the propagation gods
to give him a band that he can run on. Neither he nor George really got to work
up a sweat this year. The pileups just weren't there. W1XE made his biggest
contributions on 15 and 40. It is sure nice to have a seasoned and capable
operator like him who can plug in anywhere and make a big score. W2CO, Tom put
in a big effort this year, covering most of 10M, plus running the second station
on 15M much of the time. I stuck pretty much with 160 and 80 with a little ten
meters thrown in for variety. Between that and cooking, I kept pretty busy for
most of the time. However, I did manage about 3 hours sleep between Friday
morning wake up and finishing my Sunday night volleyball game at 10 PM.

Although I was toast, Kurt and I did stay up and tell tall tales of the early
days in California with W6VSS (K6UA), W6RW, Cam Pierce, K6RU (W6HJT), Ed, W6KUT
(K7NV's dad) and the established ops like K6EVR, W6UED (N6DD) W6VPH, WA6ZZK and
many of the young up-and-comers like, N6AA, N6ZZ, K6SEN (K0RF), K6QPH (KO7X).
Those were the good old days. Enough of this stuff . . .

Thanks to all who called in.

This is the best hobby going. I love it!

73,

Chuck
