Since I'm the only fixed station in the state of Iowa (that I know of) operating
in this test. I set my goal very low. If I could make contact to 10 different
stations. It would be a good year. As it turns out. This wasn't the year. Sure,
I worked several on multiple bands, but I don't count it like that.
Saturday, Calling cq for hours and hours in all directions. Only netted me a
couple of rovers and a couple of fixed stations. The band conditions were worst
than terrible. All contacts were more than 100 miles away.
Sunday, band conditions were better, contacts to Michigan were coming in. But
again, hours and hours of calling cq in all directions, with on a few contacts
being made. And again, everything being more than 100 miles away. Many must be
off doing something else. Or just not pointing my way.
My set up: Icom 9100, Yaesu FT-847, Yaesu FT-450D,
Downeast microwave transverters on 222 & 902.
432 = single M2-9WLA yagi @ 60', mast mount pre-amp, 800 watt amp.
222 = single M2-5WL yagi @ 50', mast mount pre-amp, 1KW amp.
902 = pair of loop yagi's @ 40', mast mount pre-amp, 10 watts.
1296 = pair of loop yagi's @ 40', mast mount pre-amp, 600 watt amp.
On 902 I would have a 250 watt amp, but my sequencer failed, parts to fix didn't
show up in time.
I'm really hoping next year will be better. I plan to have 4 antennas on each
band. Hope to hear more activity in September ARRL vhf test and December ARRL
