Comments:

I wish I had more options with antennas so I could figure out what works best.
Of course, the SteppIR did not work on 40, which was a shame because signals
were not too strong out of the east coast and when it does work it is super in
getting the little boost to keep the rate up and pick up the weaker stations.
Used the vertical. The first part was very good with 18 QSOs the first 5
minutes, and 38 by 1310Z. 6 QSOs at 1391Z. Then there was a lull at
1323-1327Z. Perhaps this is working out the band quickly. Did some S&P,
then back to CQ. Eventually there were not many on the band map, so went to 20.
There never was a rush of guys calling. Again, it would be nice to have an
alternative antenna to try. As always, a great way to start the middle of the
week.

No progress on antennas. Relatives are taking their vacation at our "bed
and breakfast" house. One big highlight was that they fetched my parents
(almost 97 and 96 years old) from the retirement facility and brought them out
here for lunch. It had been pre-pandemic since they visited!
