Comments:

The score includes 500 pts for a satellite QSO and 500 pts for using
non-commercial power (battery + solar). I found the battery rule confusing where
it says they can be charged by any means while not in use. Does this mean only
before the contest, or any time the radio isn't being used, or a second battery
not connected to a radio? Anyways, I felt it was right to not use any commercial
power during the contest.

I tried JS8Call but was disappointed. It was very slow and a lot of times people
disappeared when called back. PSK31 on 20m and 15m was the most efficient, and I
could make a QSO every minute or two while stations were available. SSB on 20m
was also pretty efficient except when trying to work high power stations with
big pileups. I probably spent too much time trying to get band bonuses on 80 m
and 10 m. 10 m was open but mostly to DX that weren't in the contest.

The highlight was working VE2HOG, who was fishing in an ice shanty where it was
15 C outside.
