That 600 watts is a maximum rating, Pat.
The dissipation heating is caused by the efficiency of the amp.
In a class B amp, 35-45% of the energy is turned into heat.
All other operating parameters remaining the same, the heat produced by
the tubes in your SB-220 will be the same; about 700 watts for the pair.
A pair of 3-500Z's have 300 watts of headroom at max. suds in this case, and
the ZG's have 500 watts of headroom. A pair of 3-400Z's would have 100 watts of
headroom, etc. The amount of heat generated is the same at a given power
input/output regardless of the tubes you choose to put in.

Rich is correct..if you notice a reduction in output, the tubes you took out
are better
than the ones you put in.
