This is what I meant by the 'phase response' - I suspect that usually they've
got the group delay problems, so have tpo slow down the ALC to try and
keep it stable.

Aye, there's the rub!!
You only have to look at the review figures measured on some of the rigs to
wonder
if they were 'designed' by people with any clue.
