I have an AL-80B where the fan is mounted in the wall between the power and
RF section.
The air is passing the transformer before it cools the 3-500. This seems to
be efficient.
Have never had any cooling problems even running 48 hours contests with red
hot tube.
The cooling is quit also.
If there is no mid wall with an opening for the fan, your amp has really
been hacked.

Subject: [Amps] Cooliing 3-500Z in AL-80
I have a simple question for you amp wizards. I am refurbishing an old
Ameritron AL-80 that has been hacked at a bit by former owner(s).
Should the cooling fan be mounted blowing in (across the tube) or
exhausting out of the chassis?
Thanks and 73,
Ken N?GZ
