The 8877 plate current curves do get to 5 Amps, but the cathode I max isn't specified on the datasheet. plate current max is stated at 1 Amp, however, this is not a pulsed rating. Oxide cathodes are able to make peak emission for short pulses, used in some BIG radar amps. I was told my an engineer who worked with NMR/MRI that 10 kW pulsed from an 8877 wasn't atypical.
