I had a home built 3 x 813 amplifier for many years. The plate transformer
was only 120 volts. It put out about 750 watts and was instant on. I
worked stations I would have missed with my newer Alpha amplifiers (which I
love), because of the 3 minute warm up. I had no problems at all with the
power circuitry running the amp on 120 volts. As a matter of fact, it would
take about the same current and cause the same "stress" as a 1500 watt amp
on 240.
