That is really interesting since the Icom tech I spoke to was adamant about
a key line buffer. Even when I told him the AL-80B sources only +12vdc at
100mA he expressly said I needed one or could expect a failure. I understand
those specs indicate I didn't need one at all. But then the Icom web site
and the tech I spoke to said "Yes" I did. Well I do agree it can't hurt.... Well I called Icom and they said for the newer ie Ameritron 811H types a relay is not needed to isolate since the relay already has a low enough keyer current. However, i asked on the 756 Yahoo group and here and was advised it really is a good idea to isolate the rig which the one i have does well and a lot cheaper .. I recalled icom and asked again after getting the feeling I really should isolate it and the Icom guy said no not needed at all BUT he agreed would not hurt a thing.. so I put on my belt AND suspenders <g> *********** REPLY SEPARATOR *********** On 02/14/2005 at 7:40 PM Charlie wrote: ICOM support never answered my email but when I called them up they definitely said to use a key line buffer or expect a failure. I do not know that the ARB-704 is any better than the buffer you already have. The ICOM tech did mention the ARB-704 as one that he knew worked with the 746 Pro. _______________________________________________ Amps mailing list Amps@contesting.com http://lists.contesting.com/mailman/listinfo/amps
