If you've always wanted to build your own kW amplifier, but don't have the
gumption or parts to do it from scratch, there is a new-old-stock Heathkit
SB220, never built, on epay. The're asking $1500, which might actually be worth
it for someone in this situation. Getting a used -220 runs for $300-500
typically. As most know, it was a compact dual 3-500Z amplifier that is
commonly modified, or used stock. A couple of things should be done such as
improving the input tuning networks, and putting step start on the primary, at
a minimum. Less critical but useful improvements include better T/R relay
switching, better bleeder/equalizing resistors, etc. All this could be done
during the kit build to save a lot of rework. I have no vested interest in this
item, just passing along the info.
