Do you have a way to bring that end of the device, or the whole thing, 
up to soldering temperature and then to do a controlled cool-down? 550
to 650 degrees ought to do it, and most gas ovens will get up to 550F.
Or you could try heating that end of the device with a propane torch, 
perhaps, though the controlled cool-down would be more problematic.

Do you have a friend with a pottery kiln? That would be an ideal
solution. Maybe there's a place near you that will fire ceramics for a 
fee? I know of two or three here in the OKC area.
