With the air variables most problems are with the rotor contacts, better to
use split-stator but used as load capacitors they become too bulky.
Two years ago I had a problem on 10m with the vacuum anode capacitor, it was
the glass type and while tuning to full output it burned a hole in the glass
at the position off the gap.

getting hot on 10M..and also 6m.    Folks from alpha  tell me they also had 
heating problems with load caps  on 10M.

lots of vac caps have to be de rated on 10m band..depending on size.   But u

can easily look up the charts and graphs  for  current vs freq on any of
them.
