SEVERE GEOMAGNETIC STORM ALERT
UPGRADED: 03:30 UT, 11 MAY
/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\
ATTENTION:
The geomagnetic storm has been upgraded to a Severe category event as of
03:00 UT on 11 May. Minor to major storming is continuing and is expected to
persist over the next six to twelve hours before stabilization begins to set
in.
Strong auroral storming will persist through much of the local night
sector over North America, possibly stretching into the evening for the
Australian/New Zealand regions as well.
HF propagation conditions remain strongly degraded and will continue to
remain strongly degraded for most of the next 24 hours. Some signal
stabilization will likely be observed late in the UT day of 11 May. More
substantial stabilization is expected on 12 May.
There is a continuing possibility for VHF auroral backscatter over the
middle and some low latitude regions over the next 12 hours.
