Equipment Description: TS930, Alpha 76PA, CTv9.23
Soapbox: Operated from AG6D, where a fair amount of antenna work was in
progress. Did about the same as last year, although slightly fewer Q's and
mults. 20 was not nearly as hot this year. Felt like there were many more HQ
stations.
Pleasant surprises: being called by 9J2BO in the middle of a JA run on 40;
being called twice by 3W5FM.
Did I Need This?: being told by N6TR after the contest (he was visiting AG6D)
the reason I hadn't done better was my choice of logging s/w.
Immediately after the contest K2MM, WM2C and NW6S showed up and we did antenna
work all day -- restored the 70' tower and KT34XA which had blown over in the
winter storms. Tree showed up in time for a beer.
Thanks for all the Q's -- hope to see everyone in APSprint, SprINT and NAQP.

Is there any established wisdom as to the optimum stacking spacing between
like antennas for HF contest use? The monobander case seems like it would
be pretty straightforward to model, but what about tribanders? I have
modeled stacked TH-7s at a number of spacings and some combinations seem
really counterproductive -- relatively large high-angle lobes, degraded
front-to-back, etc. on one or another band. Has anyone done the hundreds
of iterations that must be necessary to come up with a good compromise, at
least between 15 and 20 meter performance, or preferably with 10 as well?
And what about 40? Force 12 has a very interesting new antenna,
combining their C-3 tri-bander with a 2-element shortened 40, that might
make a good "quad-bander" stack.
A related question - How does absolute height above ground affect
tribander stacks, and specifically the selection of a compromise position
for the three bands? For example, could you assume that a given spacing,
higher in the air, would work as well in terms of addition and
cancellation, while offering additional low-angle benefit? Or is it more
complicated than that?
